It's odd how the Universe meets you when you are seeking answers. Is it pure coincidence or are we subconsciously searching for an answer outside our realm of friends and family that we look at all external signs.
I've been feeling a little powerless and unhappy these past few months...powerless a majority of my life. I was at the checkout stand at my local Safeway and saw Oprah's magazine with the headline, "You're Stronger Than You Know It". Really? Coincidence? Chance?
Needless to say I purchased the magazine. (Darn marketing! They're genius.)
What I loved about this magazine was there was a section of Powerful women with questions on what power meant to them. Here is a blip of my favorite by Elizabeth Lesser:
Q: I feel true power when...
A: "I trust my soul's voice. I feel peaceful yet strong, gentle yet courageous."
Q: Too often people confuse power and...
A: "Ego."
Q: I Feel least powerful when...
A: "I am stingy, fearful, or unloving."
Q: When I need a power boost...
A: "I place my hand on my heart, take a deep breath, and feel my connection to everyone."
What I took from this magazine was that there is no one definitive meaning of power. My definition of power may be different from say Warren Buffet or Steve Jobs. What's my definition of power? Oprah said it best as, "...a person with the confidence to be her ownself." Yes that is powerful. To not let anyone change you or make you feel less. To have the strength to stand up for yourself and stand your ground and doing it without having to undermind anyone. That is true power to me.
I hope putting it out there in the Universe will bring strength to someone else and show that they are stronger than they think.
